What Does It Really Cost to Make a Pair of KarinaJ Jeans?
Share
One thing I’ve always wanted KarinaJ to be is transparent.
Our pull-on jeans for women are $155, and I know that’s a meaningful purchase. So I wanted to share a little more about what actually goes into making them.
New to KarinaJ? We make comfortable jeans that look like real denim but feel much more like leggings. Unlike traditional jeggings, our jeans are made with real denim, complete with pockets, belt loops, rivets and a button—but with a soft hidden elastic waistband and no functional zipper. They simply pull on.
For each pair, we spend roughly:
- $7 on denim
- $3 on the soft knit waistband
- $40 on cutting, sewing, washing and assembly
- $8 to ship the jeans to you
- Plus buttons, rivets, labels, packaging and shipping all of those materials to our manufacturer
We also offer 15% off for first-time customers and free returns, which cost us about $16 when a return is made.
Then there are the costs you never see
- We pay for Shopify.
- We pay for software.
- We pay for advertising.
- We pay for photoshoots, samples, prototypes and launch events
But one of the biggest investments has been creating the product itself.
KarinaJ started with a simple idea: why couldn’t we make stretch jeans for women that had the comfort of elastic waist jeans, without actually looking like elastic waist jeans?
We didn’t want to make another pair of jeggings. We wanted pull-on denim that still looked polished and structured enough to wear anywhere.
Getting there meant months of patterns, prototypes, fit tests, wash tests and revisions to make sure the jeans could slip on easily while still looking like a traditional pair of denim.
I’m sharing this because I think customers deserve to understand what goes into the things they buy—especially in a world where clothing can sometimes feel almost impossibly inexpensive.
And every time someone chooses KarinaJ, you’re helping a very small brand continue building jeans that feel like leggings but look like real jeans.
That means more to me than you know
